PSI INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (It is recommended you read through the instructions completely before attempting to tune in your PSI) (Make sure that you follow the instructions EXACTLY and ALWAYS read at least one step ahead) 1) Connect the PSI as shown below: Ensure that the PSI is positioned so that the RED and GREEN lights, and the infrared receiver are in line of sight of your remote control handset. On top of the cable converter is ideal if this is possible. Infrared will pass through most glass, but not solid objects. Also, change to your cable channel on your VCR/TV. 2) Now plug the power supply into the mains socket. 3) Check that the GREEN light on the PSI flashes twice, if it does not then refer to section 1 in the troubleshooting guide before proceeding. 4) Test that the PSI is receiving commands from your remote control by pressing and holding down any key on the remote control. When you do this, the RED light on the PSI should come on SOLIDLY until you release the key, then it should go out. If the RED light flickers or does not come on when you do this then refer to section 3 in the troubleshooting guide before proceeding. 5) Press the following sequence of keys, one at a time: SELECT ENTER SELECT ENTER 7. If you do this properly, the GREEN light will flash, seven times, then both lights on the PSI will flash. Remove the DC power plug for a few seconds, then place it back in the unit. When you apply power to the PSI, the GREEN light should flash twice. This restores the PSI to its factory settings. 6) Wait about 5 seconds, then on your remote control press 'F' followed by '4'. 7) Ensure that the display on the cable converter is -E. If it is then proceed to step 8. If the display shows a flickering r0 then refer to section 2 in the troubleshooting guide before proceeding. 8) Check if the channels you did not normally receive have appeared. If they have, then you can stop at this point if you wish, as your PSI will have activated all of your channels. However, if you do not continue with the tuning process, you will not be able to access some of the more advanced features of the PSI, as described later. If you wish to continue tuning, disable all pay channels now by pressing and releasing LEARN (Remote with MRC550 written on bottom of keypad) or DISPLAY (Remote with Yellow rectangles round MENU and DISPLAY) on your remote control. The RED light should flash 2/3 times and the channels should disappear. If you get a GREEN flashing, light, and find the channels still on, wait 5 seconds, then press LEARN/DISPLAY again. This time you should get a RED flashing light, and the channels should disappear. You cannot proceed to step 9 until all channels (except for free channels i.e. BBC1 etc.) are switched off. If no extra channels appeared then proceed to step 9. 9) Press the following sequence of keys, one at a time: SELECT ENTER SELECT ENTER 0. If you do this properly, the RED light will start to flash. Do not proceed to step 10 until you have the RED flashing light, without any remote control keys being pressed. Try pressing the sequence of keys again if the RED light does not start to flash. You cannot proceed to step 10 if you do not get the RED flashing light. 10) Using the remote control, change to BBC1 on your cable converter. 11) Read steps 12 and 13 carefully. 12) Press ENTER on the remote control. The RED light will stop flashing and become solid RED after a second or so. 13) Wait until the BBC1 picture disappears/changes (see below), and IMMEDIATELY press ENTER once again. The more quickly you react to the picture disappearing, the shorter steps 14-16 will be. If you wait longer than about 5 seconds before reacting, you will need to start again, as steps 14-16 will take too long., To start over remove, then reapply the power to the PSI, in a similar way to section 7, then refer to section 4 of the troubleshooting guide before returning to step 9. What happens when the picture disappears/changes? On CFT models with On Screen Display, BBC1 is usually replaced by an on-screen display message saying: "YOUR CONVERTER IS DISCONNECTED PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CABLE SUPPLIER", do not panic, this is correct. On DPBB and DPV units, the picture either disappears/turns black, or changes to the station which appears when you press the ON button on your converter, usually the local cable station. In either case BBC1 will disappear in some way, and press ENTER as soon as you see this, as described above.) As soon as you press ENTER, the GREEN light on the PSI will begin to flash, and you should have. The picture should disappear within a maximum of about 10 minutes. If it does not do so, then there may be a fault with your PSI. 14) Read steps 15 and 16 carefully. 15) Press ENTER on the remote control. The GREEN light will stop flashing and become solid GREEN after a second or so. 16) Wait until the BBC1 picture reappears again, and IMMEDIATELY press ENTER once again. Your BBC1 channel should now be back to normal, and BOTH lights on the PSI will now be flashing. If you were too slow pressing ENTER, it is likely that your picture has disappeared again and you will need to restart. To start over remove, then reapply the power to the PSI, in a similar way to section 7, then refer to section 4 of the troubleshooting guide before returning to step 9. The picture should reappear within a maximum of about 5 minutes. 17) Change to a channel that normally you do not receive, such as a movie channel, or a sports channel. 18) Read steps 19 and 20 carefully. 19) Press ENTER on the remote control. BOTH lights will stop flashing, and BOTH come on solid after a second or so. 20) Wait until the previously unauthorised channel appears, and IMMEDIATELY press ENTER once again. The unauthorised channel should appear within about 10 minutes. BOTH lights on the PSI will go out and you should now be authorised for all channels. Your converter address is now stored in the PSI's memory, and should not need retuning again. If you were too slow pressing ENTER, it is likely that your picture has disappeared again and you will need to restart. To start over remove, then reapply the power to the PSI, in a similar way to section 7, then refer to section 4 of the troubleshooting guide before returning to step 9.
